Kimono Size Guide

Use our kimono size guide to find a yukata of the correct length and width. Please note that not all designs and colours are available in all sizes, and that all our kimono come with a matching 4cm wide belt. Plain obi (traditional sash belts) and tabi (traditional-style Japanese socks) can be purchased separately. For the aficionados, the weight of our printed silk kimono is 16 mommes and the weight of our embroidered silk kimono is 19 mommes!

Tip: In Japan, kimono are always tied left side over right.

 

Ladies kimono sizes

Our ladies kimono come in three different lengths:

Three quarter length / short kimono (107cm / 42 inches long from the neck to the hem)

  • Suitable for ladies of any height, from dress size 8 to 14.
  • Square cut sleeves with a small pocket on the front.
  • Designed to fall between the knee and the calf, but can be shortened if required.

Full length / long kimono (140cm / 55 inches long from the neck to the hem)

  • Suitable for ladies size 12 to 18, ideally over 5 feet 4 inches (163cm) tall.
  • Traditional kimono-style open-cut sleeves, which were traditionally used as pockets.
  • Designed to fall on or above the ankle, but can be shortened if required.

Extra large kimono (147cm / 58 inches long from the neck to the hem)

  • Suitable for ladies size 16 to 22, ideally over 5 feet 6 inches (168cm) tall.
  • Kimono-style open-cut sleeves, which were traditionally used as pockets.
  • Designed to fall on or above the ankle, but can be shortened if required.

The ladies extra large kimono measures 48.5cm (19 inches) across each of the two front panels and 74cm (29 inches) across the back panel, giving a total circumference of 170cm (67 inches).

 

Mens kimono sizes

Our mens kimono are all full length (150cm / 59 inches long from the neck to the hem)

  • Suitable for men who are at least 5 feet 8 inches (173cm) tall with a chest size of 40 to 46 inches (100 - 117cm).
  • Square cut sleeves with a small pocket on the front.
  • Designed to fall between the knee and the calf, but can be shortened if required.
