The Japanese Shop Ltd, originally called 'Doko Toko Ltd', was established in 1998 to supply the rapidly growing interest in, and knowledge of, Japan and Japanese lifestyle. Inspired by their experience of living in Japan, the founders, Jez and Hiromi Willard, were and still are, passionate about offering their customers;
'The most beautiful Japanese gifts, the most stylish presentation and a first class level of service.'
Between 1998 and 2008 the company went on to open shops in Harrogate, York and Chester as well as a Head Office distribution facility in Harrogate to service the website www.thejapaneseshop.co.uk. In early 2009 following the complete collapse in the value of sterling versus the Japanese yen, the decision was taken to close the shops and the business now operates from its online shop and its new showroom in Harrogate.
