The Japanese Shop are delighted to announce the start of their new sushi courses, events and catering service that has been carefully developed with the help of local sushi expert Simon Phillips. Simon is, among other appointments, the Japanese food consultant and teacher at Swinton Park Hotel and Cookery School in Masham, North Yorkshire. Simon’s unique take on sushi, with many local ingredients and western twists in addition to the more traditional raw fish and seafood is appealing to a growing clientele who want to eat and entertain in a more exciting way.

In addition we are delighted to be able to offer many sushi ingredients and authentic tableware to help you to on your way to becoming great sushi makers yourselves.
The recent opening of our new showroom in Harrogate has allowed us to be able to hold unique sushi and sake evenings in a truly Japanese atmosphere for intimate groups of 6-8 guests.
The sessions include a sushi making demonstration and following this, all participants will have the chance of making some select sushi items for themselves with expert tuition. You will learn the principles of successful sushi rolling and how to create perfect sushi at home, using a selection of easily obtainable equipment and ingredients.
In addition, there will be the opportunity to sample some miso soup and premium Japanese sake that will complete an evening that is all about the ‘Best of Japan’.
Participants will leave the session with their own sushi displayed on an authentic, Japanese ceramic sushi plate, a FREE gift from The Japanese Shop!
The cost of these sessions is £30 per person.
We are pleased to offer an exciting sushi demonstration that will be followed by hands-on rolling and making. There will be plenty of sushi that can be either eaten at the end of the session or taken home to share. Many types of ingredients are provided including raw, cooked and smoked fish, meats and a variety of vegetables. The demonstration lasts for between 2-3 hours and can take place in any home, office or work space. This activity is great for groups of work colleagues or friends, stag or hen parties, networking or for anyone planning something completely different that’s fun, healthy, tasty and unique.
