The Asakusa Woodblock Print (49cm x 33cm), which has incredibly vivid colours, is a superb quality woodblock print which has been crafted in the same style as the original by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858). Born in the shogun's capital of Edo (now Tokyo), Hiroshige is considered to be the last great master of the woodblock (ukiyo-e). In the Japan of his day, his landscape prints fostered a new and far-reaching appreciation for nature in art. In the West, his work influenced artists such as Whistler, Cezanne and Gaughin.
