Get into the Christmas spirit with the Hiroshige Snow Scenes Xmas Cards Box 20 which contains 20 wintery images by Utagawa Hiroshige. Hiroshige was the last major master of the ukiyo-e school, contributed notably to the development of the landscape print and to the field of flower-and-bird prints. Born in 1797, Hiroshige was the son of an Edo fire warden and inherited his father’s post. But in 1811 he entered into a printmaking studio, publishing his first dated work seven years later. After twenty years as an artist, in 1831 Hiroshige began (now under the influence of the great Hokusai) the series of landscape prints that were to make his name: Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido. Three images in Hiroshige Snow Scenes Xmas Cards Box 20 originate from that portfolio; the fourth image is from the later portfolio One Hundred Views of Famous Places in Edo. These snow scenes represents the artist at his best, a master of the impressionist, poetic view of nature. Contains five each of the following holiday cards, from left to right;

  • Hodogaya, ca. 1850–1851
  • The Drum Bridge at Yuhi Hill in Meguro, 1857
  • Fujikawa, ca. 1838–1840
  • Mishima, ca. 1838–1840

Card size: 17.5cm x 12.5cm / 7 x 5 inches Box size: 19cm x 13.5cm / 7.5 x 5.5 inches.
